Neutron diffraction and µSR investigation on YbPd

DOI

YbPd crystallizes in the cubic CsCl-type structure and reported to have magnetically ordered ground state with the mixed valence of the Yb ion. Further, it under goes through four phase transitions at 125K, 110K, 1.9K and 0.7K. The nature of all these transitions is not fully understood at present. Very recently we have studied the physical properties of YbPd by means of susceptibility, specific heat and electrical resistivity measurements and found the presence of all four reported phase transitions. We therefore proposed to investigate the nature of high temperature phase transitions (110K and 125K) using HRPD, in particular to determine weather they are magnetic or structural and the nature of low temperature magnetic transitions at 1.9K and 0.7K using the GEM diffractometer and the musr spectrometer.
