We propose to the measure the spin and orbital fluctuations associated with Vanadium in MgV2O4 using the MAPS direct geometry chopper spectrometer. This proposal will use the low-dimensional nature of the fluctuations to map out the low-energy spin/orbital excitations with the goal of extracting the spin-orbit coupling. This will be followed by a series of measurements at high-energy to extract the Racah parameters. This later measurement will use the unique capabilities of MAPS to probe the high-energy electronic excitations.
