Magnetic structure of a new quantum magnet

DOI

SrCuTe2O6 is a quantum magnet featuring spin-1/2 magnetic ions that are coupled intoantiferromagnetic chains with frustrated interchain coupling. An ideal spin-1/2antiferromagnetic chain is expected to have a spin liquid ground state with no long-rangemagnetic order and spinon excitations. However, the addition of interchain coupling that isfrustrated could lead to incommensurate long-range order that reflects the underlying physicsarising from the frustration. We wish to understand the magnetic structure corresponding to this long-range order in SrCuTe2O6 and explore different phases of the magnetic phasediagram by performing neutron diffraction on the WISH diffractometer.
