Investigating the diffusion component of the phenyacetylene hydrogenation reaction in Pd/TiO2

DOI

Liquid phase heterogeneous catalysis makes up one the largest proportions of chemicalindustry. The catalysed phenyacetylene hydrogenation reaction is of great interest as it is usedthe production of styrene which is an important chemical in the polymer industry. The activityand selectivity of the heterogeneous reaction is in many ways influenced by the diffusionprocesses that occur within the catalyst to and from the active site. Mesoporous titaniapossess regular well defined pores through which the dynamics of the industrially relevantsorbates can be measured. It is hoped that the dynamics that can be measured in thisproposal will lead to further understanding of liquid phase heterogeneous catalysis.
