Mapping the Surface Microbiome and Metabolome of Brown Seaweed Fucus vesiculosus by Amplicon Sequencing, Integrated Metabolomics and Imaging Techniques

The surface microbiome of Baltic Fucus vesiculosus was studied by applying 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing of the V3-V4 region. Therefore, samples from the tip, thallus and whole seaweed were taken with a cotton swab as well as seawater reference samples were taken. These results were used to describe the epibiotic microbial fauna of F. vesiculosus, it's potential ecological roles and were then connected to data of its surface metabolome, but also respective SEM and CARD-FISH images.
