PacBio HiFi read metagenomes from water samples collected in the eastern Fram Strait (West Spitsbergen Current) using Remote Access Samplers

This project consists of the metagenome component of the larger FRAM RAS project. RAS stands for Remote Access Samplers, which are autonomous sampling devices that are mounted on moorings at specific locations in the Fram Strait region to collect water samples year-round. In this project, water samples were collected autonomously during August 2016 to August 2020, with a total of 47 sampling time points. At each sampling time point, ~1L of seawater was autonomously pumped into sterile plastic bags and fixed with mercuric chloride. After RAS recovery, water was filtered onto 0.22 µm Sterivex cartridges and samples frozen at -20°C until DNA extraction. Extracted material was sequenced on a PacBio Sequel II platform at the Max Planck Genome Center, Cologne, generated PacBio HiFi reads.
