Metal nanoclusters and in situ formation of amides in framework structures

DOI

We ask for 3 days on TOSCA to conduct Inelastic Neutron Spectroscopy on Na encapsulated in silica gel materials (Na-SG) and for in situ formation of Na-amide encapsulated in silica gel. The proposal has previously been granted beamtime RB 920340. However, when we did the experiment one of the choppers on the instrument was not working, hence we could not collect the data.Na-SG materials are used at the moment as powerful reducing agents and for hydrogen production. The proposed study is a continuation of the previous, successful study on the in situ uptake of hydrogen in these materials in order to form a novel encapsulated sodium hydride (NaH) material (Feb, 2009, RB910315). We found that NaH can be formed easily and is more stable and easily handled than bulk NaH, which makes it a very good laboratory reducing agent. Two publications resulted from that study.
