Insulator to metal transition in TiOCl at high pressures

DOI

We propose to study the high temperature structure of TiOCl where a pressure induced metal to insulator transition has been reported recently by Kuntscher et al.Due to our experience in our last measurement (see report RB620439) we propose to make the following 3 improvements this time:1. we want to use methanol + ethanol + water as a pressure medium in order to avoid peak broadening in the whole desired pressure range2. we ask for more measuring time in order to get a better statistic (which is needed as we have seen in our last experiment)3. we want to use no pressure marker thus avoiding any disturbance by an additional phase; the pressures will be determined from the sample lattice parameter as we have also synchrotron measurements for direct comparison.Due to this improvements, we should be able to solve the intruiguing high temperature structure of TiOCl this time.
