Investigation of the Interactions Between Porous Frameworks and Adsorbed Gas Molecules using Inelastic Neutron Scattering.

We request a total of 9 days on TOSCA:6 days to investigate the interactions exhibited by two Li containing metal-organic framework materials on loading with CO2. Doping of Li into MOFs has received considerable attention owing to the potential for adsorbed gas to strongly bind on free Li sites.A further 3 days are requested to examine the interactions of a unique porous supramolecular organic framework with adsorbed CO2 and CH4 gas molecules. This low molecular weight SOF has a high thermal stability and permanent porosity and exhibits gas adsorption and desorption with much higher capacities than other SOFs previously reported. TOSCA has an excellent resolution of the hydrogen rotational line and by studying the changes in the position of the rotational line as function of loading it is possible to obtain very precise site by site adsorption isotherms.
