High field study of the Vortex Lattice structure in YBa2Cu3O7

PID

SANS measurements of the vortex lattice allow information such as the penetration depth, coherence length, and the superconducting gap structure of a superconductor to be extracted. Intrinsic vortex lattice arrangements in the high-Tc superconductor YBa2Cu3O7 (YBCO) have been established as a function of field up to 17 T. Previous SANS measurements by our group using very high quality detwinned single crystal samples showed excellent vortex lattice signals, and demonstrated a continued evolution of the vortex lattice structure right up to the maximum available field. With the new high field magnet at HZB we will be able to explore the higher field region which holds promise of exhibiting further unexpected behaviour which can help explain the underlying physics of the vortex lattice.
