Q dependence of the low energy magnetic fluctuations in Intermediate Valence compound CePd3

DOI

A strong Q-dependence of the magnetic response at characteristic energy of EK~kBTK (TK is a Kondo temperature) has been observed in recent inelastic neutron scattering studies of single crystalline cubic Intermediate Valence (IV) compounds at temperatures below the maximum of the bulk magnetic susceptibility. In a recent MERLIN experiment on CePd3 (TK ~ 500K) in addition to this a strong evidence of the Q-dependent response at energies well below EK has been obtained that contradicts to wide spread assertion that the magnetic dynamics of IV systems at low temperature characterized by broad inelastic feature at energy of ~ EK. We propose to use MERLIN to study the Q-dependence of this low energy novel feature in magnetic dynamics of CePd3 on a single crystalline sample.
