Crystal-chemical environment of lithium atoms in battery anode materials

DOI

We want to investigate and Rietveld-refine the crystal structures of a number of lithium titanates and niobates of interest as battery anode materials. Some of these phases have undergone a chemical lithiation mimicking the electrochemical lithium insertion during the battery charge. The aim of the experiment is to locate accurately the Li atoms within the oxide framework, so as to clarify their crystal-chemical behaviour and to understand the process of lithium intercalation occurring in battery operation. Four days on INES are requested to measure a first set of six samples both at room and at low temperature.
