Work related musculoskeletal disorders among weavers working in hand-loom factories

BACKGROUND: Weavers working in handloom factories spend major portion of day in weaving activities. Weaving involves work which need to be performed manually. This heavy work may cause stress in muscles which may lead to muscle fatigue and eventually may cause work related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMSD). To the best of our knowledge, no study has been documented to check the prevalence of work-related musculoskeletal disorders among weavers in Haryana region.The study aimed to check the prevalence of work-related musculoskeletal disorders among weavers working in handloom factories, Panipat, Haryana. METHOD- A cross-sectional study was conducted with the sample size of 420 weavers between age group of 20-50 years. After screening through inclusion and exclusion criteria, demographic data was collected, then weavers were asked to fill Hindi version of Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire to check the prevalence of work related musculoskeletal disorders among weavers. The data about marital status, number of children , working hour, working duration, sick leaves were also documented.RESULT- Normality of data to be assessed by Kolmogorov-Smirnov. The frequency and percentage for pain among weavers to be calculated both for 7 days and 12 months.
