To collect data about a record of orders completed between 1856 and 1900.

Main Topics:

Order number, volume number of sales records, year and month of order and of despatch of order from works. Name and address of customer (if abroad, country only given), name and address of agent through whom machines were purchased, price of machines ordered in pounds sterling at contemporary prices, machine type ordered (i.e. main type, sub-type and dimensions: 52 main categories - e.g. boring machine, grinding machine, milling machine etc), number of machines in order, year and month of starting work on order, labour costs on order in pounds sterling at current prices, net weight of order in cwt as dispatched, total cost of order in pounds at current prices, piecework cost of order in pounds at contemporary prices. Finally, a record is given of the number of hours worked on the order by: planers and borers; turners and fitters; boy joiners and men joiners.
