Is the field-induced magnetic structure in U2Pd2In indeed non-collinear ?

PID

We suggest to investigate magnetic structure of U2Pd2In single crystal in fields up to 26 T applied along the [110] direction. This system orders antiferromagnetically (AF) at TN = 37 K and show metamagnetic transitions (MTs) between Bc = 25 (field // [110] direction) and 29 T (field // [100] direction). No transition is found for field along the c axis. In zero field, the AF structure is non-collinear, all U moments point along [110] type directions. Ab-initio calculations predict that two U moments (field // [100]) or only one U moment (field // [110]) flip at MT. We suggest to collect data at 10 K, in the regime where the MT with the field // [110] is of a step-like type and at 25 K, where an S-shape is seen. The main objective is to determine the magnetic structure at the highest field to determine the magnetocrystalline anisotropy energy fixing U moments within the [110]-planes and to compare magnetization processes at the two temperature regimes.
