Water conductivity, salinity, temperature, turbidity, pH, fluorescent dissolved organic matter (fDOM), optical dissolved oxygen (ODO), chlorophyll a and phycoerythrin measurements in Admiralty Bay, King George Island, from Dec 2018 to Jan 2022

DOI

Measurements of water: conductivity, salinity, temperature, pH, turbidity, optical dissolved oxygen (ODO), fluorescent Dissolved Organic Matter (fDOM), Chlorophyll A and Phycoerythrin have been performed. From December 2018 until January 2022 separate measurements were repeated on different 142 days, during all months of the year. They were done in maximally 31 designated sites in Admiralty Bay, King George Island, Antarctica, from a deck of a Zodiac boat. Measurements were performed using YSI Exo Sonde 1 or 2 that has been lowered down up to 100 m depth with target speed of 1 m per second, to show water column stratification. Values have been recorded either every 5 or every second. The measurement data was initially recorded to YSI proprietary format, handled by the manufacturer software embedded in all of the sensors which automatically calculated derived values of properties based on direct measurements. Details on measurement sensors' calibration, resolution, accuracy and calculation formulas can be found in YSI Exo User Manual. Data was downloaded using YSI KorExo software and analyzed through Matlab in which quality check was performed – some extreme and outlier data was extracted from the dataset either because: notes from the crew indicated possible malfunctions of the equipment or other disturbances, sonde reached sea bottom, or other reasons. Despite this process dataset has not gone through any standardized QA/QC procedure. Due to weather conditions, available equipment and other factors on different days measurements have not been done in all sites, or not all properties have been investigated. Collected data consists of large number of information on water properties variability in Antarctic bay, in all seasons, with wide-scope of investigated properties.
