DOI

Dead Salps LMG 11-01, Western Antarctic PeninsulaDate of experiment- 2/2/2011Starting temperature= -0.16 deg. CEnd temperature= (not recorded, but shouldn't have changed much)Notes: salps #1-3 were already dead, salps #4-15 killed in hot water (beaker containing salps in cold water placed within in a beaker with hot water, so inner beaker water with salp slowly warmed. Salp biovolume is displacemnt volume.Sinking rate experiments in the field were performed in clear plexiglas column 57cm tall, with a diameter of 12.5 cm. The column was filled with surface seawater to approximately 6 cm below the top, and animals were released just below the water surface.
