Investigation of the intermolecular dynamics of polycrystalline C60

DOI

Recent work by the proposers on modelling the coherent inelastic neutron scattering spectrum for polycrystalline samples of the two phases of this material has shown that all of the most widely cited semi-empirical models do not correctly predict the intermolecular dispersion curves obtained from experiment. This experiment proposes to use the LET spectrometer to view the low energy transfer and Q region associated with these intermolecular interactions (for three temperatures, T=270K (disordered phase), T= 250K (ordered phase with some free rotations) and T = 90K (ordered phase with minimal free rotations) in order to fit a semi-empirical model to the data.
