Dataset of rainfall partitioning in Eucalyptus plantations, in the temperate humid climate of Uruguay

DOI

The database summarizes 18 years of daily rainfall, throughfall and stemflow, measured in seven experimental plots, located in Eucalyptus plantations in the eastern and north-western regions of Uruguay. The total incident rainfall was measured in all cases outside the plantation, at sites between 200 and 1000 m from the plots, located in areas free of plantation. Throughfall was measured using V shaped galvanized steel gutters (15 cm wide, 30 to 35 m long), raised 0.6 to 1 m above the ground and diagonally arranged in the space between the rows plantation for an adequate representation of the heterogeneity of the plantation. Rubber collars spirally fitted around the logs and sealed with silicone were used to collect stemflow. The recording and storage system consists of a bucket mechanism for the measurement of both flows and a single recording system that concentrates all the data in a microprocessor and stores it on an SD card. The information was analyzed on a daily basis, assuming the occurrence of a single precipitation event per day, with the objective of generating a useful database for hydrological modelling that serves as a simple-to-use tool in forest management.

Eucalyptus grandi plantations are a regrowth forest, where approximate age and planting density was estimated by the planting frame (distance between stumps)Note that data for the event "Uruguay_Rain_4-SAg" were not eligible for open access publishing but are available from the corresponding author on reasonable request.
