"Prevalence of Pelvic Floor disorders among Young and Middle-Aged Women in Rural Areas of Haryana"

Pelvic floor disorders, comprising urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and fecal incontinence, significantly impact women's quality of life. However, their prevalence among younger and middle-aged women in rural regions of developing nations, like India, remains understudied. Various cultural factors, such as early marriage, high parity, limited healthcare access, and insufficient awareness about pelvic floor disorders, heighten the vulnerability of rural Haryana women to these conditions. This study aims to fill this gap by evaluating the prevalence of pelvic floor disorders among rural young and middle-aged women in Haryana. Through a cross-sectional study involving 236 participants selected via purposive sampling, the research employed the PFDI-20 questionnaire for data collection. The findings reveal a concerning prevalence of pelvic floor symptoms among rural women, including pelvic pressure, vaginal bulge, urinary incontinence, bowel straining, and bladder emptying difficulties, emphasizing a significant burden. These comprehensive findings underscore the urgent need for targeted interventions, increased awareness, screening, and management efforts tailored to the specific needs of rural Indian communities to address this major health issue and enhance the quality of life for affected women.
