The vibrational spectrum of C60 has been investigated by many techniques since it became available in significcant quantities. Previous INS spectra were recorded with small quantities, ~250 mg, inside sealed quartz tubes. Both effects resulted in poor quality spectra. Nonetheless, these have been widely used in assignment of the spectrum of C60. Results DFT calculations by the authors have shown that all previous assignments of the spectrum of C60 are wrong. The aim of this proposal is to record a high quality INS spectrum from a large quantity, ~15 g of C60 in order to make a definitive assignment of the spectrum.
