PDF analysis for the local structures of PZT in the morphotropic phase boundary

DOI

We request four days of GEM time to collect full patterns on PbZr1-xTixO3 (PZT) with different compositions at room temperature for Pair Distribution Functions (PDF) analysis. Following our previous HRPD experiments around the morphotropic phase boundary (MPB), we established a rather complicated structure model with mixed phases. Because it is difficult to distinguish many models with very similar R factors, we propose to carry out PDF analysis to study the local and domain structures for PZT and examine the reliability of the mixed-phase models. In order to explore the detailed PDF peak shapes and discriminate between mixed phase components, we need high resolution out to 50 Å-1, which requires each run to be for at least 12 hours. We'd like to run 7 samples plus a calibration run.
