This study comprises the data from two ESRC-supported research projects. The first, carried out in 1980, surveyed by postal questionnaire, all entrants who received a higher education grant from the Northern Irish Education and Library Board in 1973 and 1979. In addition, the 1973 cohort, who by 1980 had left their undergraduate degree courses, were questioned about their present (1980) activities. The second study, carried out in 1985/1986 is an extension and replication of the first. A later study Higher Education in Northern Ireland : Participation and the Graduate Labour Market, 1991-1992 is held at The Data Archive under SN:3467.
