Diffuse scattering studies of squaric acid in an applied electric field

DOI

Organic ferroelectric compounds such as KH2PO4 and squaric acid, have attracted much interest in the past due to their potential in applications [1]. This interest has been revived recently by the discovery of ferroelectricity above room-temperature in croconic acid [2], a member of a homologous series of small organic molecules with composition CnOnH2. Squaric acid corresponds to n=4. We ask for 8 days on SXD to record 3D data sets of diffuse scattering in squaric acid at room temperature and in the high-temperature phase at 450K in zero field and electric field of 1kV/cm applied along the crystallographic a direction.
