Why is CaLn2Ni2WO9 (Ln=La, Pr, Nd) not a relaxor ferromagnet?

DOI

La3Ni2SbO9 exhibits relaxor ferromagnetic behaviour in an analogous way to relaxor ferroelectrics. To investigate the effect of competing magnetic interactions and subtle differences in the crystal structure on this novel ground state we synthesised CaLa2Ni2WO9, CaPr2Ni2WO9 and CaNd2Ni2WO9 for the first time. None of these compounds displayed the relaxor ferromagnetism of La3Ni2SbO9 and we need to understand why relaxor ferromagnetic behaviour is not observed. We request two days on WISH to collect data on all three compounds at room temperature and at 4K and to collect additional data at 20K on CaNd2Ni2WO9 to elucidate the nature of any magnetic ordering and to refine accurately their crystal structures.
