Second Language Anxiety among Eritrean Unaccompanied Refugee Minors

The research question is How do Eritrean Unaccompanied Refugee Minors (URMs) in the Netherlands experience Second Language Anxiety (SLA) when they acquire Dutch? The study consists of a questionnaire and interview data. The goal of the study was threefold: to investigate under what circumstances these minors experience SLA, what linguistic and socio-emotional causes and effects might account for it, and how they feel this influences their L2 acquisition.

Method: Data for the questionnaire study were collected digitally, using Qualtrics, but often in presence of the researcher Interview data were collected in person. Audio recordings were made for transcription purposes, but these recordings were deleted once the transcription had been completed. Universe: Young Eritrean refugees in the Netherlands (16-20 years of age).
