Surface Air Temperature Weather Observations in the Canadian Arctic

This data was collected by Environment and Climate Change's (ECCC) Meteorological Services Canada (MSC), using two types of thermometers: mercury filled thermometers (ordinary, maximum) freeze at approximately -39°C; spirit-filled thermometers (minimum) freeze well below -75°C. These thermometers are installed inside of a Stevenson Screen to protect them from the elements. Weather stations used for this study are: Alert, NU; Baker Lake, NU; Cambridge Bay, NU; Coral Harbour, NU; Eureka, NU; Inuvik, NWT; Iqaluit, NU; Resolute Bay, NU; and Yellowknife, NWT. PDC selected 2002-2018 to download and visualize with our Sea Ice Thickness visualizations on We downloaded the monthly data for these years and stations, and then averaged hourly or daily data to collect the monthly average. This dataset will be archived the PDC with full documentation to ensure valuable reuse.
